About

Powen Shiah fuses a passion for the power of technology with the critical understanding of how technology is transforming society in a rapidly-changing world, the potent combination that Steve Jobs called “technology married with liberal arts, married with humanities.” Powen brings this insight to his work with startups, preparing them for challenges of succeeding in new cultural and linguistic markets.

Powen combines operational, strategic, and cultural competencies in international marketing, communications, internationalization, and business development. He established and lead the U.S. subsidiary in San Francisco for Jimdo, a Hamburg-based web startup. With his experience and networks in both Germany and San Francisco’s technology sectors, Powen Shiah is collaborating and consulting with the many consumer, mobile, and media startups in Berlin to develop and implement comprehensive growth strategies for international expansion and success in the competitive US market.

Powen Shiah has presented and represented Internet companies at South by Southwest, BarCampNYC, BarCampPhilly, the annual conference of America’s Small Business Development Centers, San Diego’s GrowBiz, PodCampPhilly, and BarCampNewsInnovation. He has also supported the establishment of a German technology journalism fellowship in Silicon Valley and has hosted Chefrunde's exclusive CRUSA study tour (among whose participants numbered the editors of Spiegel Online, DPA, Bild, Sueddeutsche.de, Zeit, and Berliner Morgenpost).
